Description
Legionnaires’ disease is a potentially fatal respiratory disease caused by bacteria that thrives in stagnant water.
The disease is acquired through the inhalation of aerosolised water contaminated with the bacteria. Sources where temperatures allow the bacteria to thrive include hot-water tanks, cooling towers and evaporative condensers of large air-conditioning systems, such as those commonly found in hotels and large office buildings.
Topics include include the health risks associated with legionella bacteria, how legislation and codes of practice can support the management of legionella bacteria, how to control the risks of legionella bacteria, the risks associated with legionella bacteria in hot and cold water systems and how to control these risks.
This qualification is assessed by an open-response workbook.
